Plexibond – Original since 2012

Plexibond is a unique photo panel developed in 2012 by Fotogeschenk.nl. The name combines plexiglass and dibond — and that’s exactly what it is: a high-resolution UV print behind clear plexiglass, laminated with optical glue onto a rigid dibond back panel.

The technology behind Plexibond

While other providers print directly onto aluminum or rely on traditional face mounts, we created a hybrid technique in 2012. Using our Mimaki flatbed printers, we reverse-print directly onto 3 mm plexiglass. This is then laminated — perfectly flat and bubble-free — onto 3 mm black or white dibond using optically clear adhesive film. The result: a vibrant, durable, and deep image presentation suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Applications

Plexibond is a popular solution for interior design, galleries, restaurants, offices, and even for commemorative displays or grave monuments. Its sleek appearance and weather resistance make it ideal wherever visual impact and durability are key.

Between 2018 and 2020, dozens of large-format Plexibond panels (up to 150 × 225 cm) were supplied for the prestigious global exhibition Datura World, curated by visual artist Jimmy Bollaerts. The exhibition traveled to venues including Cannes (during the Film Festival), Geneva, and select Hyatt hotels, earning Plexibond recognition in high-end art and design circles.

The origin of Plexibond

Plexibond was developed in 2012 by Wilfried Vonk, founder of Fotogeschenk.nl, as a cost-effective and durable alternative to traditional face mounts. By combining modern UV printing with precise lamination, a new standard was born. Vonk previously introduced product names like “photo on aluminium”, “photo on forex” and “garden poster” to the Dutch photo print market — terms now widely adopted across the industry.

Plexibond remains a proprietary product with thousands of units produced for clients throughout Europe. Its success in high-profile projects — such as the Datura World exhibition — underlines its unmatched combination of clarity, depth and durability.
